Meditation – An Introduction Part 1

Unlock the Power of Meditation

It’s a busy old world, more now than ever before! We’re in an almost constant state of stimulation, whether at home, at work or just walking the high St. We all need to take time for ourselves, and release our tensions, worries and concerns.

If this opening statement rings a bell in your head, then you’ve come to the right place. At Zenoki we embrace peace, quite, contemplation and inner calm. If this sounds good to you, then consider meditation!

So What is Meditation?

First up, anyone can meditate; in fact most people already do without even realising it. It’s a simple quieting of the mind, a harmonious break from the monkey brain chatting of our inner voice. You can be in a meditative state whilst walking in nature, appreciating every sip of a sweet hot chocolate or sitting on a cousin in complete silence just allowing your heart to beat softly. These are all types of meditation.

Is Meditation hard? Nope, meditation is easy! As our iPhone app Complete Relaxation says, “You don’t even need to try, it really is that easy” in fact, trying is not a good idea, as we’ll explore later. It also costs very little to meditate, in most cases its even free, you don’t need to buy specific equipment and best of all, you can do it anytime any place and anywhere! You just gotta go with the flow and relax, its not hard and you’ll love how it makes you feel.

Meditation – Back to Basics

Dating back many thousands of years, Meditation certainly isn’t new. It was originally used to deepen ones understanding of the scared and mystical sides of life, but these days, mediation is mostly used for relaxation and stress reduction.

If you’re looking for a definition of meditation, well, that’s kind of relative, as you just read in my hot chocolate analogy! The Oxford dictionary states, to Meditate is to: “focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation” I guess the key wording there is to focus ones mind for a period of time. What you’re focusing it on becomes the meditation.

When considering cultural traditions, differing faiths and beliefs, defining meditation can get rather complex! So for arguments sake, relaxiapps takes a broader approach to meditation. Placing a modern slant on traditional meditation techniques. You could say, a little bit of everything…

Benefits of Meditation

Meditation is wonderful! It can make such a huge difference to your every day life, bringing you a sense of calm, peace, and most importantly balance. This is of great benefit not just to your emotions, but your overall health and happiness. Actively practicing meditation on a daily basis will slowly but surely impact on your entire life, even just 5-10 minutes each morning will make an obvious difference. This time scale can then be increased as and when you feel comfortable.

Meditating regularly over an extended period of time can even benefit certain medical conditions. I know this first hand and we’ll look at that in another post.
